Minidoka County

The legend of the Shoshone Indian tribe meaning of Minidoka means broad expanse, which best describes the county. This is a place of proud history intertwined with the present times near the famous Snake River where the broadest expanse of the river lies. Others claim Minidoka derives from the name “a fountain of spring water”. Minidoka was the original name of Union Pacific’s Oregon short line, a railroad spur traversing the Snake River plains. This was also the route of the early pioneers heading west. From the train station flourished the town of Minidoka.

In 2021, the population of Minidoka was 21,995 which was 9.3% higher than it was 10 years ago. Agriculture and manufacturing are the top industries in the county.  The homeownership rate in the county is 73.4% which is higher than the national average which is just 64.1%. This goes to show that this is a great place to relocate. The economic development tax exemptions makes this a great place for business since it is strategically located on Interstate 84.
