Camas County

Camas is a relatively small county with a population of 1,077 (as of 2020)and takes up 1075 square miles of Idaho land. Camas county is a historical place for gathering for the Shoshone-Bannocks. The first weekend of June is still very significant to the community as they celebrate the Camas Lily Day and the Sho-Ban Homecoming where traditional dances are showcased along with fishing derbies, live music and great food and drinks.

The name Camas is derived from the plant Camassia, a lily-like plant that was the main source of food of the Native American settlers. Camas is composed of Fairfield, Corral and Hill City, with Fairfield as its largest city. There is a steady growth of job market increase of 1.7% over the past year and the unemployment rate of Camas county is lower than the average in the entire country, not to mention the cost of living is cheaper than the US average. These factors make it a great place to settle down.

It may be quaint but has a lot to offer for nature lovers seeking more places to explore and discover. It is a sight to behold whether in the winter or during the summer. You can enjoy a relaxing day of fishing at a few of the creeks at South Fork of the Boise River or a calm boating experience at the Mormon Reservoir. Feast your eyes bird watching at the Camas Prairie-Centennial Marsh WMA near Hill City, this place is like a treasure chest waiting to be explored. About 18 miles north of Fairfield is Worswick Hot Springs which offers 3 hot springs. There is also a primitive hot springs called Skillern Hot Springs just northwest of Fairfield. A 6-mile roundtrip hike plus primitive camping along the way.
